4.5/5 ★ – Shidan's review of Pampas & Selene: The Maze of Demons.

Review after finishing the DEMO. This game is quite fun and well thought. This game is developed by @unepic_fran how developed UnMetal, an homage to the original Metal Gear and one of my favorite games ever. Pampas & Selene is similar in that the developer takes inspirations from old games and does his own thing. Unlike UnMetal, this game seems less focused on humor, which is a little bit sad, since I loved the humor in UnMetal, but also unlike UnMetal, the combat in Pampas & Selene seems more polished, you can either play in coop or solo and change between characters, this dinamic is great, first, because nowadays most games don't care about local multiplayer and second, because both characters have different strenghts, weaknesses and abilities, so I'm certain that this dinamic is going to be fun in both single player and local co-op. I'd like to talk about inspirations, but since this game is inspired in the 8 bit era, the era of the grandfathers of the industry, is hard to point out each thing taken from those games, beacuse many mechanics from that era are now mandatory in most games. The most obvious inspirations I saw were Metroid, Castlevania and Zelda. I really liked the game and it feels just like a great game from the 8 bit era (although some mechanics and graphical aspects probably wouldn't have been possible in the NES), I hope the mechanics go further than what I saw in the demo. Before writing this, I already bought the game and intend to play it soon. Also, I recommend turning on the Scan lines (Default) and the 8-Bit OST before playing.
