5/5 ★ – SilverScroll's review of Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes.
SPOILERS (obviously)
Fuck man, what an intro.
This is basically just a glorified prologue but damn man, watching everything you built in peace walker get destroyed so efficiently, listening to the chico tapes and hearing what paz went through, if they wanted to set a dark tone then they fucking smashed it. The music is excellent at setting a tense atmosphere and I actually prefer Keifer Sutherland as Snake in some aspects, it gives him an older and gruffer sort of feel, like he's been there and done that, which considering when the game takes place, he has. That ending was gripping and so sad at the same time, rip paz and chico.
There's no doubt that this is the best gameplay in the series and there is more content here than first expected, with some extra side ops and speedruning stuff if your into that, definitely not worth 40 quid like it was priced at launch but definitely worth it now that theres a definitive edition.
Long story short, required reading if you want to play TPP and peace walker is required if you are to get the full level of emotional depth from this game (which was probably why kojima wanted to call it mgs5). Sets the tone perfectly and watching everything you've worked towards in Peace walker, and what various characters described as heaven get destroyed is truly heartwrenching. And the fucking tapes man, jesus. I give it five stars because it accomplishes what it sets out to do (act as a prologue to mgs V) and smashes it in every aspect.
