3.5/5 ★ – Simbers18's review of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
TDLR: This game is fun and I enjoyed the game.
This isn’t the most egregious game I’ve ever played. I think reviewers were really making a big fuss over nothing. The gameplay is super fun with each character feeling unique enough with their own traversal mechanics. It never got boring except for Harley Quinn’s swinging which feels more automated than the others. However the gun play initially is quite similar and you have to spend just a little bit of time making them feel different. For instance I mainly played as Captain Boomerang but equiped him with a shotgun and a sniper with electricity afflictions to relate back to his connection with The Flash. Whereas Deadshot had more strategical guns such as an assault rifle and sniper as well as a different affliction. However, these afflictions are slowly unlocked and can make all the characters feel the same until you unlock all of them.
The story is something that I was eager to learn about ever since the reveal trailer as I was wondering how they were going to actually kill the justice league. In my opinion I think the story really works until they introduce the multiverse as it really feels as if they are setting up their live service game system rather than telling the compelling story seen in the first half of this game. However, all of the boss fights made you feel the weight of what you were doing and just how powerful these heroes are. My favourites being Flash and Green Lantern and the weakest being Batman or Braniac (as his is a copy of Flash).
The graphics and cutscenes are impressive with most of them game looking photo-real. The city, Metropolis, looks unreal as well and just playing in that fictional city is a dream come true.
Where I think this game mostly fails is in the set up for their live service system. This just detriments the want to play the game as rocksteady are known for their single player experiences. I am hopeful to play some multiplayer and hop back in when future seasons arrive but for now I think I’m good to move on as I don’t really care about grinding for loot.
