3.5/5 ★ – SlashStriker's review of My Friend Pedro.

'Legacy' Review from 3/12/2022: I had been meaning to jump into some GamePass indies, so recently I decided to start up My Friend Pedro by DeadToast Entertainment. This game has been on my watchlist for years and after ~3 hours I have completed its campaign! My Friend Pedro is a side-scrolling shoot-em-up focusing on fluid movement and punchy gunplay. You play as an unnamed character who is forced to go from escaping from a gang hideout to waging war on all kinds of bounty hunters, 'elite' gamers and sewer people. Normal hero stuff. The gameplay is very arcadey, with an emphasis on beating your high score, taking minimum damage and chaining together creative kills. Some aspects of the gameplay, such as its music and tone, reminded me Hotline Miami and other aspects felt closer to Bloodroots. Creative platforming is mixed into the combat to keep you on your toes, and the pacing of the game was very nice with new gameplay concepts being added constantly and end-of-chapter boss fights each proving a new, fun set piece. I think My Friend Pedro is an easy recommendation, especially for those with GamePass. These sort of brisk arcade-styled action games will always have my attention, and I'm glad I gave this one a try! I played this game on PC via PC GamePass.
