4/5 ★ – Slaskitenur's review of Assassin's Creed: Unity.

A rough stealth and parkour gem. This game is famous for its disastrous launch, being unoptimized in every way and littered with bugs. However, almost ten years later I had a great time with it! This is maybe the best example I’ve come across of a game being completely saved by a mod. In my opinion, the ONLY way to play this game is with the mod ACU Fixes. It doesn’t take any big swings but it touches on a lot of small things. Basically it optimizes the game, making it what the original developers probably intended. With this mod the game goes from being unplayable in many respects to the perfect “assassins-fantasy”. Suddenly parkour and stealth work and not only that, these aspects of the game are some of the best of the series. Especially the parkour system which is actually challenging, forcing the player to learn how to analyze the environment correctly to optimize the movements. The story is your classic revenge story but with an interesting twist. The main character, Arno, is very much a blank page but I like being able to write his story on my own as I play. Some assassination targets are forgettable but others are more interesting and woven into the backdrop of the French revolution. That brings us to the real star of the show, Paris itself. In my opinion it is one of the most beautiful settings of the series and it truly feels alive. And there is a lot to do in a city in the midst of a revolution. My favorite side hustle was solving murders, some cases were really fascinating. The free expansion Dead Kings is forgettable in my opinion. The main issue is that it takes the player away from Paris to a much smaller location. I played this on an old gaming laptop with a Xbox controller and it worked great. I look forward to play this again on my steam deck one day. Without the mod, ACU Fixes, it is a 3 tops. But with it, it reaches a 4 easily.
