4/5 ★ – Slaskitenur's review of Dragon Age: Inquisition.
A BIG fantasy epic!
Dragon Age Origins, the first entry in the series, is a true classic in my book. So much charm and personality with a great tactical perspective on combat and gameplay.
After a mis-step with Dragon Age 2, Inquisition looks back to Origins and builds on its foundations. We get a compelling story, a deep and tactical combat system and a bunch of fascinating characters. This is all well and good but where the game loses me a bit is with all the filler side quests. I spent 150 hours in this game and after finishing it I wish that 50 of those hours had ended up on the cutting room floor.
Where Origins had the same amount of depth and creativity to it as this, it also felt slimmer and tighter. With all the inconsequential fetch quests to complete and pointless forests to explore, Inquisition feels bloated in comparison.
I played all the expansions to this game and the first two I didn’t care much about. They don’t really carry any consequence to the main story. The last one, Trespasser, very much does so I would strongly recommend that one.
I played this on the Steam Deck and after a rather complex installation process, it worked perfectly. Never had a crash throughout my entire play-through and the game played and looked great. The EA launcher app on the other hand, is a complete disaster. If you want to play this on a Steam Deck I would recommend to keep the game ON throughout your play-through. That way you only have to navigate through the launcher one time.
All in all, this is a great game filled with memorable characters and not so memorable side quests. Can’t wait for the continuation of the story with Veilguard!
