3.5/5 ★ – SlyLink's review of Bravely Default.
This game is 5 starts until the last few chapters. It's a solid RPG in the vein of old school Final Fantasy: four warriors set out to save to world by reawakening four elemental crystals. Though this game has way more of a story and character development than any of the original Final Fatatsys. The story and characters are interesting, and characters have some good development and are well voice acted.
The games main gimmick is it's Brave and Default battle system. You have Battle Points in battle that equate to an action (attack, ability, item etc) you can Default which puts the character in a defence stance and saves up that BP for next turn, or you can Brave, using extra BP to have multiple actions in a turn, if you go into minus BP you will have to wait that many turns for it to recover. It's a really fun risk and reward battle system.
The real let down for this game is it's final few hours, without spoiling too much, it's a bit of boring rinse and repeat quest with some grinding and feels like padding to make the game longer, even though the game would have been long enough had it ended there.
Overall I would recommend, especially if you're a fan of older JRPGs.
