5/5 ★ – SlyLink's review of Spyro: Year of the Dragon.
Year of the Dragon is hands down the best Spyro game of all time. As with Crash, the original trilogy for me just got better with each game, and third installment takes everything we got so far and just improves on all of it.
The story is pretty basic, as an eveil sourceress from the other side of world has stolen and bunch of Dragon Eggs and you need to chase her down and get them back. However in true Spyro fashion, it's well acted and has some great moments; bringing back Tom Kenny (SpongeBob) and Gregg Berger for Spyro and Hunter, and they got Pamela Hayden (The Simpsons) on board for Bianca.
The levels are awesome and well put together, fun to explore, lots of hidden secrets, with cool and varied enemy designs. Almost all levels start of pretty linear but open up and loop back around by the time you reach the end goal. Then if you need more Dragon Eggs eggs to progress or just want to 100% the game, you're free to explore and find hidden areas, mini games and even mini bosses, or come back after freeing one of the new characters later in the game, in order to do their section.
It also introduces a handful of new characters, one for each home world, who have their own levels with unique movement and mechanics, and all show up in other levels to help Spyro out, you take control of them and use their abilities to complete tasks Spyro otherwise wouldn't be able to, mixing up the gameplay every now and again which is nice.
I cannot fault this game, it's always been my favourite Spyro and original PlayStation game, I can always come back to and have a great time, no matter how many times I beat it.
