2/5 ★ – Sombreroman's review of LEGO Ninjago Movie Video Game.

This is by far the worst LEGO game I've ever played... The camera controls are not great, it's usually too zoomed in and tends to randomly lock itself in an inconvenient position. This makes combat a bit of a pain when you can't see enemies approaching you or standing right behind you. Making matters worse, they introduced a needlessly complex combat system and you only end up using half of it. The game also feels the need to show you how to aim by holding B every 20 minutes or so when you "unlock" an elemental power... even though the aim controls are identical for every character and it had been a feature in every LEGO game for at least the previous decade. This also happens long before they actually unlock their abilities in the movie and directly conflicts with a cutscene near the end of the game. Speaking of cutscenes and inconsistencies, the pacing is really jarring and sections of story are completely missing. There are three different styles of cutscene used and the quality varies wildly. There are low-resolution clips from the movie, pre-rendered cutscenes, and in-engine cutscenes. Half the time it feels like audio effects are missing and it's very awkward. In terms of world navigation, it's very easy to get lost. The levels take place almost entirely in the open world and the map is almost entirely useless. I didn't have any crashes during my time playing, but that's probably because I was using the Proton compatibility layer on Linux and not Windows. I would not recommend playing this game, I'm not even remotely interested in completing it past the main story. It feels more unfinished than The Hobbit, whose planned Battle of Five Armies DLC was never released and left the story on a cliffhanger, quite literally making it an unfinished game.
