2.5/5 ★ – SongOfStorms's review of Tron: Identity.

“I will get the truth of this. It’s my only function.” While many will complain about matching up the unique world of Tron with the visual novel genre, I find the lore and philosophies of The Grid to be extremely compelling and worth digging into. Unfortunately, I don’t feel Tron: Identity has the scope to do more than create intrigue. The writing is great, and character interactions are engaging. Choices that matter and interesting questions encourage repeat playthroughs. However, the game’s short length means that it feels like the first act of a 5-act story. I’m not usually one to be disappointed by length, but I felt my curiosity was unsatisfied by the time I was finished. Regardless, spending more time in this world was worth it. The defragging puzzles were interesting, but felt like they were added just to have something beyond dialogue. By the time you get the hang of it, there’s nothing else for them to throw at you and the credits roll. Overall, I enjoyed my time with the game and hope its story continues down the line. But unless you’re already a fan of Tron’s world, I can’t really recommend the game. There are sci-fi detective noir games with more meat on their bones.
