3/5 ★ – Spongyoshi's review of Kirby's Dream Land 2.

Kirby's Dream Land 2 is the third game in the main series and... yeah it's weird, I agree. It's both a sequel to the original Dream Land and Kirby's Adventure so how does it fare in both plans? The game expands on the copy ability idea of Kirby's Adventure by introducing three animal friends. Think of them similar to Yoshi in Super Mario World but all of them with their own gameplay style and healthbar. They also use copy abilities differently than Kirby! A very cool addition as seeing how the two interact in unique ways is very fun and traversing the same stage with a different animal friend is very cool and sometimes even necessary which is great! The game is divided in Worlds like in Adventure. Unlike Adventure however, each world feels more distinct and secrets are more complex, requiring you usually to use the right mix of animal buddy and copy ability. Sometimes it's a lot of fun but other times, it's just trial and error, which is a shame. The game's a lot shorter too, although minigames are no more, it at least helps with pacing and the game feels more varied and doesn't overstay it's welcome as a result! The bosses are way more fun and varied as well as the overall level design, even if it's just by a little but the small puzzle nature added with the animal friends helps a lot! Overall, I think this game is a pleasant surprise, it has some very neat ideas and while up is somehow STILL float, it works better here and the engine is overall pretty fun to mess around, especially playing with the different Animal Buddies, it's also a fun game to 100% even if I'd definitely recommend a guide for some of the unlockables, sadly, but it was overall more pleasant than Adventure even if it still feels a bit too aimless for it's own good, but still shorter and sweeter!
