3.5/5 ★ – Spongyoshi's review of Lethal League Blaze.
A fighting sports game? This is more likely than you'd think!
The goal is simple, move & jump around and make the ball hit your opponent! Hit the ball to give it your color and if you get hit by the ball when it's not your color, you loose health. Loose all your health and you loose a stock. Loose all your stocks and you loose the game! Very simple concept but genuinely fun!
The game boasts a ton of modes including story mode, classic mode, online, and different variants of the classic mode including a volley-ball game (that is honestly very hard) and a hit-the-target game. And while there's a lot of stuff, it also feels a bit lacking. Story mode offers like a few hours of contents and that's it and classic mode is just like 10 fights without any rule changes (So you can only play volley-ball & hit-the-target on free play mode, not even online) and besides that, there's only local play and online play..
The online is cool tho and is still active to this day which is cool and there's also many unlockables you get by playing a lot to motivate to keep playing! The roster of character is also nicely varied, each character has their own special attack (teleport, arc throw,pass-through-walls...) and passive ability (triple jump, hover, wall-jump...) not to mention different walking speeds and jump heights! You can also play with different ruleset (you can even have a target appearing during the match that will give a random effect to the ball when entered) but I wish the stages had the same treatment. They're all different-sized rectangle and while that's cool to have different sizes, I wish there was more variety at play like bumpers, angled walls or rough surfaces but oh well...
Honestly, while it's still a fun play as is, I feel like it's missing some modes and features and more varied stages to truly shine. It's still definitely a fun concept and worth playing if you enjoyed the demo of it but all you see is definitely all you get and that's a shame. Still a fun game tho for sure!
