4.5/5 ★ – Spongyoshi's review of WarioWare Gold.

A WarioWare collection title? You read that right and you're probably wondering what's really the point of such a thing and I would agree with you on that.. But let's get started, shall we? First thing you'll notice is the new presentation, fresh artstyle and voice-actors for that new entry! I'm... personally REALLY NOT a fan, takes down loads of style point away to the franchise, especially for the voice-acting part that used to feel so surreal! Then, you get into the gameplay and... well what can you say except that WarioWare is now close to perfection! No microgame is really unclear and only a few have bad difficulty balancing, there's also a jarring difference of polish on some of them that will have LOADS of variants while others get stuck with only three which is a HUGE shame but still, for a collection with over 200 microgames, that's to be expected! But what about the collection part? Loads of retro microgames come back, the selection is overall very good with some weird choices & omissions when you look back to it but it still feels like a very solid selection while playing, especially since new ones got sprinkled in as well and a bunch got completly reworked, some are almost unrecognizable as a result which is awesome! (Although a few did get butchered with the new cleaner artstyle) Not only that but there's also a game mode with a mix of older WarioWare bonus stages like Gamer or WarioWatch alongside fresh new ones like Time Trial or NonStop! It gives the game so much replayability alongside the 18 different main stages as well! Well, that's not all, there's also the return of toys (that are pretty weak this time around but offers a very nice surprise to incentive replayability after you got all of them) the return of the huge free play mode and a brand new achievement screen! With all that mixed in, you will have a LOT of play for a LONG time! Like, I've got this game for a few years and played it for loads and loads of hours and I still feel like I've got stuff to do in that game, it's THAT jam-packed with content! So, what's my final thoughts, was a WarioWare collection title a bad idea? Not really but I don't feel like it was really the point of that entry, it's moreso the perfected WarioWare experience! Well, not perfect-perfect, there's still a few mishaps. Toys aren't the best, style could be better and microgames could be better balanced, among other details. But man, I'd be lying if I didn't said that this is a fantastic game and is a must-have for any WarioWare fan or even anyone who's into unique and fun experiences! This is an incredibly enjoyable game for everyone and I can't recommend it enough, even if you own all the WarioWare games and think you've seen everything, this game will make you doubt it! You can pick it up with your eyes closed if you enjoy the WarioWare gameplay loop!!
