3.5/5 ★ – Stagivian's review of Gadget: Invention, Travel & Adventure.

Gadget: Past as Future: One of my favorite things about videogames are definitely the environment and the worlds they have, from the lore, the atmosphere and to their characters they can do a lot in terms of immersing you in their videogame worlds and Gadget seemed to be one of the oldest and biggest examples of that, inspiring Guillermo del Toro and the Wachowskis when it came out was enough for me to look into the game and I am glad I checked this out. Gadget is a short point and click adventure game but there aren't any puzzles nor any mechanics throughout the game, you just point and click through the game's story. This did sound a bit boring to me at first but the atmosphere and the feel this game has carries the gameplay. From the sound effects to the dated yet surreal visuals to it's engaging story this game will easily immerse you in it's world and it'll be an unforgettable experience. As much as I think the game does well with mostly all the things it sets out to do even with it's short length I found myself bored and imagined some cool gameplay mechanics that wouldn't be huge but would be enough to make the game feel better. The game also has a lot of unneccessarly long cutscenes that are great first time because again they stick you to it's world but you see the same cutscenes with the train so many times where I just couldn't help but wonder why they didn't add something to it at the very least. Gadget is a unique game that does a lot to make the game's world immersive and keep you interested in it's story and I enjoyed it but I can't help but wonder if this game could've been better because I really wanted to love the game so much but I just couldn't love it as much as some do, I'd still recommend playing it though there is nothing like it and it's also short.
