2.5/5 ★ – Standingonrocks's review of ICEY.
Would I actually recommend ICEY?
That depends on your tolerance for average games. I just wanted to knock out some short games in my backlog and decided to choose ICEY as it's only supposed to be a few hours. And for a few hours it's fun enough. It's like a polished flash game, with some really stupid decisions.
- Play the game on easy. The combat has absolutely zero weight and you can't tell when you're getting hit by enemies. Don't even mess with it and just play it on easy so you can dash around crushing them. If you accidentally start the game on a harder difficulty you can change it by standing outside the first main gate in the first level.
- Plan on getting all the achievements and just use a guide. You're pretty much just doing to the opposite of everything the narrator says. That's honestly the best part of the game, listening to the unnamed narrator get pissed at your actions. Plus the ending and "Story" only really makes sense on a meta-level, so just plan on going through it for that.
It doesn't do anything spectacular but I didn't dislike my time with it. If you've got an empty evening or the games somehow ended up in your library I don't see why you shouldn't give a shot. Just don't play it expecting particularly deep game play. Go in expecting meta elements and you'll have a good enough time.
Or don't. I don't know, no reason to follow my directions either.
