3/5 ★ – Standingonrocks's review of Mirror's Edge.

I went back to Mirror's Edge after playing it sometime around its release. I have to say with the passage of time I'm not sure how much I enjoy this game or not. The positives easily come from it's aesthetic. It still looks absolutely stunning today and the music and atmosphere is impeccable. The city is beautifully designed with bright vibrant colors. I loved running around and looking at the landscape. Mostly. The gameplay is mostly fun serviceable. The negatives stand out more to me this time through. The gameplay can be a bit wonky. Missed jumps, missed ledges, and bad combat means your going to repeating sections a lot. You'll die and die and die and at some point it stops feeling fun and more like a complete drag. The story is completely non-sensical and I have no idea what the plot was about. It's not engaging or really even interesting. Maybe I'm just dense, but I also found myself wandering around looking for what to do quite frequently. I'd find myself in a room looking for what crate or airduct or door I'm supposed to go through. Sometimes it's very signposted, sometimes your just searching for a button you need to push that's very easy to miss. Mirrors Edge strandles the line of fun and annoying and flips back and forth repeatedly. When it's good, it's great. When it's bad, I wanted to shut it down and wondered why I decided to replay it anyways. It's also fairly short, and I felt no particular drive to engage with the Time Trials.
