4.5/5 ★ – Stewie's review of Tactics Ogre: Reborn.

Great writing and addictive tactics gameplay make this game a winner in my book. The leveling system can be pretty brutal in the way that you can only be a certain level for each fight, so grinding is almost impossible. I say almost because you can get small permenent stat upgrades randomly off the battlefield, but these are minor and take a long time to add up. With this controlled leveling system in place some fights have a very high difficulty spike, which makes them satisfying to beat but sometimes go a little bit too far in my opinion. The final boss for example is one of the most brutal fights I have experienced in an rpg for a long time. But overall the story and tactical gameplay both hold up surprisingly well considering how long ago the original game was released. Also for those who want to do all optional side content this game is almost endless. There is a rewind feature for experiencing different story paths, a 100 floor deep dungeon, incredibly hard post game chapters and tons of hidden fights and recruitable characters. I stopped after getting the platinum trophy with tons of content still left. Great game.
