4/5 ★ – Subway's review of Dead Island 2.

I know automatically whether to trust someone or not based on their opinion on Dead Island 2. It may be a zombie game in 2023, but that doesn’t stop it from being a lot of fun. There’s a wide variety of weapons to use and almost all of the melee ones are so fun and satisfying to kill hoards of zombies with, some of the guns are fun but I don’t love them and would always prefer melee weapons. The gore is a big highlight in this game, it just looks gnarly and had me genuinely shocked sometimes. The damage on the zombies are also determined by how, where, and what you hit them with, and it’s really impressive seeing that work. One of my favourite parts of the game tho are the environments, they represent LA so well and easy and fun to navigate with lots of effort put into making every piece visually pleasing. There’s also a lot of Easter eggs and hidden jokes which makes it more fun. Unfortunately there’s a few generic and boring places you have to go to, like the sewers, and those weren’t my favourite parts of the game. Also, there is a story here… somewhere. I didn’t really care much for it, but it’s fine I guess. I liked the upgrading system, the cards and all that, but there were a few UX things that could’ve been better with inventory and stuff like that because it was a bit of a hassle sometimes. Post-game is very fun too, being almost fully upgraded running around the movie sets, Bel-Air, and some of my other favourite environments, with some op weapons and doing side quests. The co-op is definitely overlooked too, I played it for a few hours and it was really fun. Only thing with that is that it’s hard to communicate with other players. Overall, this game was great! I was probably the only person hyped for this and it definitely delivered for me. I really wanted to give this 5 stars but there are still a few issues I have with it, so I’ll settle for a good 4 stars. One of my favourites this year for sure
