4.5/5 ★ – SuperSonicHeros's review of Sonic Unleashed.

((PS3 Version)) A lot of people are very mixed with this game. Either they love it, or think it's just okay. For me? I really love it. I gotta say I really appreciate the game's art direction. One of the best artstyles in the series. Hell in any game that I have ever played. Genuinely amazing and detailed for its time on the PS3/360 era. The story is also amazingly well written. One of the best stories of any game I ever played and in the series. Voice acting is very well done. I also likeChip as a character. His friendship with Sonic is just great. The daytime stages are some of the best designed stages in the series. Werehog gameplay is pretty fun for some of the time. Enjoyed the combat and what it is trying to do with it. Bosses are incredibly great. CGI cutscenes is gorgeous and holds up well. Final boss has some of the greatest cinematics in the series. And the soundtrack is just... amazing. Though... this game is not perfect. Drifting is REALLY bad. And no Not because I boost while trying to drift, it just isn't well designed due to another flaw I have with this game. Sonic is slippery. Way too slippery and it can get hard to control some of the time. The combat for the werehog is very shallow. It has a lot to be desired and it needs more depth with it. The platforming feels janky at times with the werehog. It just needs some more polishing. Also the optimization.... my god it is just.... something special. It even gets worse when you play as the werehog. But the optimization is nowhere near the biggest flaw with this game. Oh no no. It's the fucking medals that are the worst. I hate how the game forces you to stop from progressing just because you don't have enough medals. It even gets more annoying when you can't even tell where any of them are because they are in such awful hiding places. Especially in the boost stages. Why would they add the medals in the boost stages when it's obvious that the boost stages aren't meant to be exploring. It just feels like trying to make the game longer just for the sake of it. I know what you guys are thinking "Well the game wants you to explore. That's the point." And I'm just like, "And?" It's still bad game design. Also the tornado sections are just... there? Not fun but also not really bad. Just felt unnecessary and boring. This is definitely not only one of the best sonic games, but one of the best games I ever played. While it is very flawed, you can tell that Sonic Team really great with this game. I can tell that so much effort was put into it. Though you guys might not like the werehog side of the gameplay, I still recommend this game to a lot of you guys.
