4/5 ★ – SyIens's review of A Plague Tale: Innocence.

I’ve never really played the free ps plus games that I’ve been racking up over the years and recently I’ve been playing them and have had really good experiences with Control, Detroit Become Human, and now this. I think pretty much everyone can agree that the best part of the game is the atmosphere. The score is probably the biggest contributor to this, along with the world building. The concept of the storyline (specifically the rats) is great because it adds a necessary fictional element while still feeling real. The graphic were amazing on the PS5 version. Although, something about the character animations was a little off, I don’t know how to describe it but sometimes how they talked and walked in cutscenes looked uncanny. But idk maybe I’m just spoiled because the last game I played (Detroit: BH) had perfect facial animations, the game is still gorgeous anyway. The characters were great as well, I really grew to liking the ‘gang of misfits’ in the short time that I played with them. And the villains, with even less time in-game, were great too. The gameplay is VERY mixed, at times slinging baddies in the head was fun, but sometimes the stealth could be very tedious, especially towards the end of the longer missions. The PS5 controller with the sling and running mechanics felt amazing. But, there was one part towards the end of the game where you could tell a character was about to die, but the combat got ridiculously hard and I died multiple times, and the respawn point made that part frustrating and I was just annoyed when I was supposed to be sad during that scene. The boss battles are satisfying (once you figure out what to do). And once you get control of the rats, you feel like the king of the world. I’m really hyped for the sequel, the trailer is incredible. However, I don’t want to pay $70 for it, especially when I got this for free. I really want to play it but I’ll wait a little while until it goes on sale.
