4.5/5 ★ – Sylvo's review of Persona 5 Royal.
Persona 5 is a game that's really special to me. It's been in my top favorite games since I first played it and was there for me during a tough time in my life. Upon beating it I remember desperately wanting more and having one of the biggest post-game depressions of my life to the point I sobbed through the credits.
When Persona 5 R came out I wasn't sure if it's existence was warranted. This fear only grew as I played Persona 4 Golden which had a third semester that felt like it just dragged the story on for the sake of new content and was tacked on for the hell of it. However that doesn't feel like it's the case with Persona 5 R. Persona 5 R adds so much content, so much quality of life, and a third semester that has a better ending than the original game as well.
Not only does Persona 5 R's new additions feel like they add a lot to the base game but the story sequences also hit harder and feel like they're more earned. The final palace that was newly added asks an interesting question and made me on the edge of my seat the entire time. It adds roughly 20 hours more run time to the game and the previous time also feels worth a playthrough with everything added. Persona 5 R is the definitive way to play through this game. It also helps that more scenes are voiced compared to the original too.
Persona 5 R is one of my favorite games and it only elevated my love for this game and the series and makes me excited to see what Persona 6 has in store. Truly this is one of the greatest gaming experiences of all time.
