3/5 ★ – TalonJedi's review of Terminator: Resistance.
If you’re a fan of the series like I am you’re definitely going to find this one to your liking, even with some jank within the gameplay at times. It was a well crafted tale that bridges the gaps between the first 2 Terminator movies with some very well placed call backs and Easter eggs scattered about. I also want to comment on how much I appreciate the linearity the game presents. It’s quite refreshing in an age so littered with open world sandbox games to take a step back and enjoy a mission based structure with a life emphasis on exploration. Some levels are a bit more open than others which are more narrow and laser corridor focused and I appreciated that type of simple yet effective level design. The graphics are probably the weakest part of the game for me but for a B level type of game, I get why they couldn’t make the visuals more impressive. But don’t get me wrong the enhanced edition has a bit of polish to it visually but those character models scream PS4/XB1 era still. Also the soundtrack is ripped straight from the films with a little twist and nuance to them which I enjoyed. The voice acting is pretty solid and believable as well overall while the gameplay is a mix of action and stealth with a level up system where you can dump skill points into various perks like more damage resistance, more damage with weapons or such things as carry more items or level up faster. The gunplay felt like COD a bit at times during the run and gun sections, which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. Overall, if you’re a Terminator devout fan like myself you’re really feel at home here while if you dabble in action/stealth FPS games you should still find some enjoyment if you don’t mind a little bit of rough around the edges gameplay and visuals.
