3/5 ★ – ThatsALotaChris's review of Mika and The Witch's Mountain.

I backed this kickstarter a couple of years ago and kind of forgot about it until recently. I was very excited to finally get my hands on it, and while it was certainly a quick experience, it was at the very least a fun one. Flying around as a witch feels great and the controls are smooth. You can truly live out your Kiki’s Delivery Service fantasies for a few hours, but it does unfortunately come to an end rather abruptly. Sure, you are free to free play after the main story, but there is very little to do after all your deliveries are made and the island is explored. I do wish there were some system for replay-ability, such as time trials for deliveries or even just randomly generated delivery missions after story completion. My other issue is that the story feels somewhat unfinished. We are presented with a villain who never really gets their comeuppance. There’s a vague allusion that you could thwart their schemes by fixing an old windmill, but it never actually pays off and the story ends with him technically still in power over the island. I don’t know if there are planned updates to the game (I doubt it because of it’s kickstarter status) but it does feel as if it’s missing a third act so to speak to really deliver a satisfying experience. Overall, it’s a fun little diversion, and clearly lovingly made, but ultimately lacking as a full experience. I like it, but I want MORE of it!
