4/5 ★ – TheGameNerd's review of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine II.

Space Marine 2 successfully builds upon its predecessor in every way and is the new standard of quality for the Warhammer 40K games. I had a great time with this game in the 10 hours it took for me to beat the main campaign. The combat while simple is just pure fun, shooting down waves and waves of enemies in this just never got old for me. The executions always felt incredibly satisfying, no matter how many times it happened. The visuals are amazing to downright breathtaking at points, with amazing set pieces that had me stop and take it in multiple times. Only improved with the pretty incredible amount of enemies that can appear on the screen at once. Although that also comes with the cost of performance if you do not have a beefy PC to keep up. I kept a pretty consistent 60fps (playing at 1440p) through most of the game, with some dips down into 40s when things got really crazy. I played through the campaign solo on the hardest difficulty, because apparently I hate myself, and your AI teammates are beyond useless. Obviously, a part of that is on me for choosing to play at that difficulty, and I assume their uselessness would be less noticeable if I had played on anything lower. Just made me wish I got a couple friends to play through it with, as I imagine it would have enhanced the experience 10-fold. If you’re a Warhammer fan, then this game is a no-brainer purchase. There is so much content for the endgame with operations that you will definitely get your money worth. If you’re not, then maybe wait for a sale, but I would still recommend tying it at some point as it really is a great game with a solid story to back it up.
