4/5 ★ – TheHBJK's review of Detroit: Become Human.

PlayStation 5 • 15hrs Put off playing this for half a decade and now we’re finally here… Detroit Become Human has always been on my radar but I’ve always avoided it since I just didn’t think the interactive movie experience would be for me. I love the idea of multiple choice in video games though so I was always keeping it in mind… Then recently my fiancée convinced me we should play it since it’s one of her favourite games ever, so we finally did, and oh my god this game is both tense as fuck and hilarious. Starting out with that first Connor chapter set the scene perfectly and really made me realise the potential that this game had, I saved the day but I got him killed, which was both a noble thing to do but also meant I messed up his memory…you’re faced with a lot of choices just like this throughout the game and I love it. We also have Kara & Markus as the other 2 main characters and their stories are both incredibly fun to follow along with too, though I must say that the Markus storyline felt the most corny, making his story have parallels with certain real life events was both moving and a little hilarious if I’m being honest…but I still got attached to his character and had fun with his pathway. Kara definitely has the most uneasy feeling storyline of the 3, and seemingly the one that was written for the game first, as the early concepts of this game were entirely based off of her character. I’m a sucker for her type of plotline and I found it very endearing, and feel like I got almost the exact ending I wanted. However, the best storyline of the 3 characters for me STILL has to be the one that kick starts it all. Connor and his relationship with his partner Hank, is one of the best dynamics I’ve seen in a game in a long time. The rest of this game could be dogshit and I’d still be a fan of it purely off of the strength of these 2s interactions. Also worth noting that the voice actor for Hank is Mr fucking Krabs from SpongeBob…best character lowkey. I think that even though this game can get really fucking stupid at times, the choices make it so incredibly entertaining that I can excuse any issues I may have with the narrative and let myself be sucked in by the madness that’s unfolding around me constantly while playing. It’s gonna be fun returning to this world when me and my fiancée go through and do some of the bad ending stuff since we got a fairly good ending…this game just sucks you in and it still has a grip on us, 8/10.
