4.5/5 ★ – TheNameBrand's review of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
I love this game. I'm sad to see the Metal Gear franchise brutally murdered, because it is one of my favorites. And among them this game stands out in its own unique way.
This game PLAYS incrediebly well. The controls are super crisp and as the player you always feel in control. The AI is intelligent, and the stealth mechanics are absolutely pristine. You can complete virtually every mission in any way that you see fit, using whatever loadout you'd like. The possibilities are nearly endless.
It is an incredibly great game, but it's not the strongest METAL GEAR game, meaning, the story elements are lacking. Kojima seemed to place extra emphasis on gameplay and it absolutely shows and that's what makes the game fun. Don't expect too much from the story (and in fact, expect an ending that you're going to have to search up on YouTube for missing chapter 52)
Also, the resource gathering is one giant phantom pain that haunts your post game. Konami it seems wanted to cash in on the micro-transaction game, so getting end game items, and things that really help you in the online post game stuff is STUPIDLY hard to come by, but I honestly wouldn't worry about that. It's not worth getting into that anyway.
Final minor gripe: Not super optimized for PC (and an obvious port at that). Super wish that the MGSV App worked with PC but Konami has said that they're done with it... If you own a PS4 tho, I'd reccomend you play on that (if not you won't have really any issue, I didn't as you can see)
Overall though, get this game. There's a few things that I can gripe about, but honestly, it's one of the best gaming experiences I've had in years. I haven't logged this many hours into something in a long long time, and it's my hope that you will too when you play it. Loads of fun. Great times.
