3/5 ★ – TheRealness408's review of Monster Lab.
This game isnt half bad. It's definitely low budget shovelware, but it's damn good for what it is. You arrive at a castle with a mad scientist and a monster maker. Your job is to go around the world collecting monster parts, meeting other monster makers, and try to make the best monster.
You earn monster parts by doing mini games, sidequests, or via turn based battles. There are quite a few mini games, some more fun than others, so damn near impossible on the hardest setting.
Battles are 1v1 monster battles where your goal is to destroy all of a monster's limbs or it's torso. Every body part has a different moveset with different attacks, so while simple, combat is surprisingly deep.
The game world isnt much of a world. You have 5 levels that take place on sort of a gameboard that you go around.
Overall, this was definitely intended to be bargain bin trash, but I had a lot of fun with it. The only downside is the ps2 version runs like crap in an emulator, so this version is borderline unplayable. I didnt add the emulation issues to my overall score. Solid 3/5.
