5/5 ★ – TheRealness408's review of Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey Redux.
This is the SMT game I've been waiting for. With the 5th or 7th game in the main series (depending if you include Megami Tensei 1 and 2), this series finally delivers a coherent story with actual characters!
You play as a member of a research crew sent to investigate the Schwarzwelt, a sort of black hole/alternate universe that appeared in Antarctica after a nuclear event.
As you explore the Schwarzwelt, you learn about your traditional Law vs Chaos factions and eventually members of your team will align with one faction or another for various reasons. By the end of the game, your choices will lead you to align with one of the factions, or stay neutral.
The monster catching and dungeon crawling is as good as it's ever been in the series, although I do slightly prefer Nocturne's combat system. With that said, Strange Journey Redux is definitely the easiest SMT I've played, and some players will definitely appreciate the somewhat relaxed challenge.
Overall I loved this game. While the story could have been a bit stronger, I'm still giving this a 5 for still being fun, and finally delivering on what was a complete and coherent story.
