2.5/5 ★ – TheScottSpot's review of Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium.

November 15 - 2022 Game Beaten #32: Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium. #ScottBeatsGames2022 I had never played a Phantasy Star, so I didn't really know what to expec. It was fun and interesting to play an old-school JRPG on the Sega Genesis. However, while there are definitely things to like about the game, it ends up being fairly bland. It's actively not good and actively not bad. Just okay. PROS -Cutscene graphics (really cool idea for a game this old) -Story occasionally has high points -Monster design -Battle macro system -Ending -Battle system is fun (other than spell names) CONS -Rotating cast of characters (meaning you never really get attached to anyone) -Overworld graphics are pretty ugly -SPELL NAMES. I DON'T KNOW WHAT ANYTHING DOES -Pressing A prompts a message that there's nothing to check. ALWAYS -Running against walls changes your direction (very annoying) -Music is mostly forgettable other than a couple stand-out tracks
