4/5 ★ – Thomakaze's review of Expeditions: Rome.

Gameplay was about as expected. It's a tactical turn-based, much like XCOM, DOS2, Wasteland, etc. Combat was simple-ish compared to other games but it was still an enjoyable time. It is uncommon to see a game of this genre with no magic and no guns and I think they pulled it off quite well. It's 100% voice acted which I didn't expect and the voice acting is waaaaay better than I expected. The game gets bogged down a bit with world exploration and army management, I honestly would have preferred a cleaner experience there. There's just a some fluff that takes just time and no effort that you have to do to upgrade your camp and I'd rather that stuff just unlock linearly as the story progresses.. Each chapter ends with a massive battle that takes place in 3-5 places and those were the highlight of the game for me. Story was also good and I at least enjoyed all the companion characters, I definitely preferred some over others but they were all pretty well written. Overall, significantly better than what I expected for not being a AAA game.
