2.5/5 ★ – Titan_'s review of Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

Back in 2004 I remember my dad coming home with a GameCube and bundled with that GameCube was a game called Metroid Prime. As a 4-year-old watching my dad play that game scared me a lot. It wasn't until later when I was in my teens that I dug out the GameCube and decided to pop in Metroid Prime and play it for the first time. From that point on, Metroid Prime has become one of my most favorite games of all time. So the excitement that I had leading into the Metroid Prime 4 release was through the roof. First off, this game is definitely Metroid Prime coded. It is one of the most beautiful games in the Prime series so far. The environments are beautiful along with the landscapes. The music is great too adding to the atmosphere of the world. The music is definitely one of the highest points for this game. It's so good from just wandering around to fighting bosses. The performance of this game on the switch 2 is also very impressive. The fact that the switch 2 can do 4K 60 FPS simultaneously is amazing. It's even more amazing that the game is capable of doing 1080P 120 FPS for this game as well. The 60 FPS mode it ran flawlessly. The 120 FPS mode, it ran really good except for a few instances and cutscenes where I noticed a dip and frame rate. And finally, this game does feel like Metroid Prime. The psychic abilities didn't feel forced like the motion control abilities in Prime 3. I would also say that the way Samus controls in Prime 4 is a lot smoother and more fluid than it ever was in the previous games. Now for the negatives. Prime 4 is a great game through and through, but its problems lie in the NPC characters that you run into throughout the game. Sometimes the NPCs will give you tips on what to do next when I don't really need a tip on what to do next. I can be out exploring, just trying to get any upgrades that I can find, and then an NPC will tell me what to do next. It was honestly annoying and frustrating at times. It also didn't really feel like a metroidvania. I've seen the comparison thrown around a lot on the internet that the design of this game feels like Ocarina of Time and I kind of agree with that. Don't get me wrong, I love Ocarina of Time and I love Zelda games as a whole, but I don't come to a Metroid game for a Zelda experience. To top it all off with how many plot holes there are in the story and how frustratingly bad the design was of the final boss, I definitely can't recommend this game, especially to somebody that may absolutely love the Metroid Prime series. After waiting 8 years since the announcement of this game, 18 years since the release of Metroid Prime 3, this game just didn't really live up to what a Metroid Prime game should be.
