3/5 ★ – Trapazt's review of Assassin's Creed: Unity.

Keeping it short, while this is a franchise fan favorite, I have to be honest. I think this entry has a lot of potential but fumbles at the attempt to live up to that very potential. The story is the best example of this. As displayed by the end of Assassin’s Creed Rogue and the beginning of this entry of the franchise, Rogue protagonist Shay Patrick Cormac kills Unity protagonist Arno’s father at the start of the game when Arno was just a little boy and at no point is that part of the story revisited in any detailed manner. Arno never attempts to get revenge for his father. I always say that about this game that Ubisoft had the biggest layup and they failed miserably. They could’ve had AC III protagonist Connor Kenway appear in this game as we know he has issues with Shay and he could’ve worked in tandem with Arno to kill Shay. Instead, we get a watered down and very underwhelming Romeo and Juliet story accompanied by a very uninteresting antagonist in Germain. The gameplay is good and different from other entries in the franchise which I believe is a welcome change. The world setting is fantastic as Ubisoft did a fantastic job recreating the atmosphere of a French Revolution Paris. I can give this game a 3 star rating because it has many faults when it comes to the story and its characters but it delivers on gameplay and world setting which are key elements to the success of an Assassin’s Creed game. Note that some points were deducted due to the infamous rocky launch and the still occurring presence of bugs & glitches in the game. 3/5
