5/5 ★ – Tye_Boy's review of God Hand.
“Wow!” “I love it!”
So tough yet so satisfying, God Hand is unlike anything I’ve ever played before. Beneath its wacky, nonsensical tone and humour, a mechanically-rich combat system awaits, where you can put together your own combos by assigning moves to specific inputs in whichever order suits your preferences. This freedom allows for much experimentation, allowing for robust customization to put together the moveset that you desire. The controls can be a bit clunky, much like Resident Evil 4, but just like that game, you can get used to it; no matter the minor gripes that persist during gameplay. The story, characters and world are quite memorable, with many bizarre and exciting moments throughout. Being a late PS2 game, it looks great visually, with the occasional frame-rate hitch when losing this particle effect at certain points. Despite that, it does not detract from the gameplay at all. Its music is wonderful, with many catchy tunes, while the presentation stands out for the absurd.
I never expected to love God Hand as much as I did when I first played it. It had been on my radar to try out for ages, and I worried it would be a daunting game to get used to and play through in regards to its difficulty. To my surprise, I really enjoyed the game from the time I first played it, being an all-around well-balanced and incredible game. I haven’t played a game as stellar as God Hand in quite some time, and considering the excellent games I’ve played through in the last number of months, that’s saying something.
