3/5 ★ – Tye_Boy's review of Panzer Dragoon: Remake.

For $7.50 CAD, Panzer Dragoon: Remake ended up being an alright time. Don’t get me wrong: its got a fair amount of muddled areas. But at the same time, there’s an equal amount of good to be found here. While its controls can be rather sluggish and even downright frustrating to control, the rail-shooter gameplay is quite fun. When movement clicks and works well, that is. On top of that, the 360-degree aiming is something I hadn’t experienced in a game of its kind before, which I found myself enjoying considerably. Visually, the game looks good in terms of general environments. And yet it looks to lack polish in that department, as well as in its presentation. Certain models, shading, pop-in-and-outs, as well as long load times add to the mixed bag that is this game, despite running well enough on my Switch. Although part of me would have wanted more from it, given my liking of the core gameplay, its one-hour length felt well-done, never being too drawn-out or overlong. Then again, this is a remake, meaning it’s original length would still be set in stone as before. Yeah, that probably sounds dumb to write here. I just figured it was worth mentioning. If there’s one thing I greatly enjoyed from it, however, it’s the music. Sweeping orchestral tracks, interspersed with clearly midi, yet catchy as hell tracks, culminate into a solid offering of music. Even though I had fun from Panzer Dragoon: Remake, its middling controls and mixed look leave a decent amount to be desired. At the very least, it’s worth getting at a discounted price; far better than paying the original $30 CAD price for this game.
