4/5 ★ – TylerTurner7's review of Super Metroid.
I see now why this title is so revered by so many. A genre-defining game, Super Metroid excels at its level design, art direction, soundtrack, and epic boss battles. As someone who does not particularly enjoy the Sci-Fi genre, I found myself enthralled with exploring this unique and sometimes terrifying world. The array of abilities and upgrades made it worth exploring every nook and cranny in hopes of finding some items that could help keep me alive or abilities that could help me find new areas. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the game and glad that I can add it to my list of completed classics.
My only major qualm was the controls. While I am certain it would have been groundbreaking gameplay in its day, I had trouble timing certain jumps and targeting certain enemies during combat. I felt like the hardest enemy in the game was the controls which may have been an issue because I was playing the Switch Online version of the game. Despite those issues, I am so thankful for this Super Metroid and the legacy that it has passed on to some of my favorite games of all time such as Ori and the Will of the Wisps and Hollow Knight.
