4.5/5 ★ – UnitedQuest's review of Freddi Fish and The Case of the Missing Kelp Seeds.

Taking the point and click adventure concept from the first 2 Putt-Putts, Freddi Fish 1 is the first to really introduce some quality incorporation of zany characters & genuinely funny G-rated humor in the actual narrative and player interactions - the biggest defining concept of their 90s games. In just their 3rd ever game, this kicked off the prime years of the Humongous Adventure genre we all know and love. Freddi is a typical neutral protagonist with little personality outside of being kind. Luther is a little funny and goofy as the little brother type. The game has tons of sea creatures with appropriate pun-related personalities that you'll meet, but it's clear who steals the show in this one: the 3 villains. The two sharks are a clone copy of Rocky and Mugsy with the "doofus henchmen following a boss that calls him stupid all day" and it works hilariously, but the real kicker is when they reveal that they work for the fucking "Squidfather" as the actual leader they fear the wrath of & who, when finally revealed on screen, is an obvious parody of Jabba the Hutt. All of those references combined into the evil plotline was fucking fantastic, and exactly the type of humor in these games I never picked up on as a 6 year old, keeping them as genuine surprises to 25 year old me playing through them. Last thing on the villains: the narrative decision to have their scenes be cutaway interactions unbeknownst to Freddi & Luther worked really fun as a storytelling mechanism. Lastly, this game's score really hit it out of the park. Fantastic hits for every vibe it had: classical under-the-sea, noir, and even the creepy and mysterious places around the ocean in this game. Yeah, this one is fantastic
