4.5/5 ★ – UnitedQuest's review of Pajama Sam 2: Thunder and Lightning Aren't so Frightening.
The very first Pajama Sam, No Need to Hide When It's Dark Outside, is one of the few very titles in this industry that I consider a 5-star, perfect game. Alongside the likes of GTA V, Black Ops, and the Simpsons Hit and Run. As of the time of writing this, it's the only Humongous game I have played at that level.
Although that game was by FAR my favorite Humongous game as a child, I never saw any more of Pajama Sam until tonight. Coming into the sequel to a perfect game blind and with my critical eye ready, I gotta say that Pajama Sam 2 pretty much lived up to that high bar.
For the typical Humongous children's adventure, point & click go find the items, this one... has incredible game design in that framework. By far the best it's ever been to this point.
My mind immediately goes to two major aspects of this game that stand out as phenomenal. The first is a game world that feels immerse, just as the first Pajama Sam did. Each screen is well crafted with things to check out and some quality art style all over the place.
The second, and more standout, highlight is this game's commentary on workplace society. From old school office stereotypes to the more modern thought of the tortured worker, this game fits everything neatly into the plot of a business controlling the weather. That alone puts this game at the top of the list of Humongous games that adults can enjoy.
I'm only 2 games in, but Pajama Sam is really cementing itself as being the best designed Humongous Ent. game franchise as well as the most complex/difficult. Both games certainly challenge the player to think much harder than they would in a typical Putt-Putt or even Freddi Fish. It's a great changeup as I play through all of them, and I'm really excited for Pajama Sam 3 now lmfao
