4.5/5 ★ – Veilor's review of Tomba!.
Tomba is a game I return to every year to play. It's playful design and humor is a fun experience every time I replay it.
Story
Tomba starts with the only premise, a pig stole your grandfathers bracelet and you need to get it back. Later on you learn that seven evil pigs have cursed the lands and to get back your bracelet you need to seal them inside bags.
Gameplay
The game is an adventure platformer. You can at any time revisit and go through earlier areas to complete tasks given to you by different NPC's. The basic concept of the game is to jump on enemies and toss them away in a quick and easy fashion. You collect different items by exploring the levels and they have different uses with hints given to you while playing. It sort of plays out a bit like old adventure games where you have to find the correct piece. But otherwise straightforward.
Design
Albeit being an old ps1 game I still think it looks great. Some models and areas show some polygon blockiness but it doesn't look that bad as the game in general is very colorful. This viewpoint might just be because I have huge nostalgia for the game.
Conclusion
Tomba is a hidden gem and one I think everyone should experience if they can. The ps1 version might not be the best to be buying as prices is up there. But if you have a PS3 you can buy the game as a PS1 classic version.
