3/5 ★ – Visionary_Gamer's review of Comix Zone.

I’ve not played many Megadrive/Genesis games outside of Sonic, Golden Axe, Streets of Rage and some other classics, but I would go as far as to say Comix Zone is the best looking out of the ones I have played. Beautiful comic art style. Traversing comic windows. And comic book style “whack” and “Thwomp” text boxes as you strike enemies. I cannot think of any games with a similar style. In fact, I googled games with a similar style, and only managed to really discover “Viewtiful Joe”. Excellent use of the Megadrive sound chip with some excellent tracks. The gameplay, however, lets the game down. Battling enemies never feels strategic, instead you just button mash whilst the enemies block and strike randomly. And it is VERY short. Despite this, it’s 45 minute or so run time means that you should experience it just for the sheer style, edginess and unique aesthetic.
