3/5 ★ – Visionary_Gamer's review of Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb.
The downside to revisiting old games is that your childhood nostalgia may sometimes get ruined. And that is exactly what has happened here. Indiana Jones and the Emperor’s Tomb is by no means a bad game, but it is a game marred with clunkiness and overly simplistic level design.
The combat is satisfying and matches the punchiness and dirtiness of the films at first, but quickly becomes stale and clunky. And the enemies become fist and bullet sponges as the game goes on. This is similar with the platforming. What starts off entertaining, again becomes clunky and frustrating. Partly due to the controls and partly due to the level design.
The story is okay I suppose. It has that cheesy Indiana Jones vibe and is enjoyable at times. It does drag a little and ends up being an overly long affair.
Great boss variety despite the clunk.
I’m going to plunge this one back down the depths of nostalgia and try to only remember being a kid and endlessly replaying the Ceylon level.
