4.5/5 ★ – Visionary_Gamer's review of Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil.

Klonoa 2 was the biggest surprise for me since Klonoa 1. I’m so glad I decided to play some of history’s best games as it means I’ve got to experience the Klonoa games. I genuinely cannot think of a bad thing to say about this game. Everything receives an upgrade using the PS2’s power compared to its predecessor. The graphics are simple but effective. Bright, vibrant colours shine on a playful art-style. Klonoa 2 is beautiful from the foregrounds to the backgrounds. And there are some very pretty backgrounds indeed. A great soundtrack emits warming music that wouldn’t be out of place at a spa. So relaxing. And tremendous soundscapes like the sound of a waterfall, or the amplification of being in a cave, add to the atmosphere. Klonoa 2 does take a more moody approach in some levels, and manages to get its emotions across in the form of weather effects and amazing atmosphere. I really loved the characters with their fiery attitudes and aggressive sounding Japanese voiceovers. And they complimented a story that was excellent for a platformer. Whilst not as brutally heart breaking as Klonoa 1, this is still a story filled with emotion and great moments. But what really sets Klonoa 2 apart, is its originality. Some of the mechanics on show here, are ones they I was experiencing for the very first time. Challenging puzzles using enemies, exceptional platforming sections and some of the most creative bosses I have seen. I absolutely loved the surfing levels and they provided a nice interlude to the standard levels. Every part of Klonoa 2 is pure fun. Klonoa 2 was a very special 7 hours. It holds up perfectly and should be experienced by any platforming fan.
