5/5 ★ – Visionary_Gamer's review of Metroid Prime Remastered.
Due to my transition from N64 to Xbox and PS2. This was another gem on the GameCube that bypassed me.
Recently I have gotten a taste for the Metroid franchise after playing through Zero Mission and replaying Super Metroid.
Metroid Prime captures the atmosphere of Metroid perfectly and its transition from 2D to 3D is unbelievably seamless.
The game is super polished, and everything feels like a joy to experience. The world and levels are incredibly detailed and interesting. The gameplay, movement and traversal is super fun. The combat, whilst simple, is great once you unlock a few abilities. The bosses, while few in number, were all very well done and unoriginal. The difficulty was perfect. There were relaxing moments, and moments of panic and taking care whilst hoping to discover a save room.
The best part about the game is the exploration and (obviously) the Metroidvania elements. There is a lot of backtracking, but this never felt boring as there was always something else to discover when you returned to previous areas.
This is a perfect example of Nintendo and their developers putting 100% care and attention into their games. The detail is insane. The graphics are excellent and are accompanied by amazing sound design. Rain looks and sounds great with droplets on the visor and it bouncing off objects. The visor steaming up when near a heat source. Being able to see Samus’ skeleton when the x-ray visor is being used. The developers thought of everything.
I really cannot think of anything bad to say about this game. Sure, there were a couple of areas that were annoying with big difficulty spikes, but this was not enough to even put a dent on this game’s excellency.
