3.5/5 ★ – Visionary_Gamer's review of Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus.

Sly Cooper is a good platformer marred by some glaring issues. You could argue that some of the issues are down to my platforming skills. But I thought the one hit kill, minimal checkpoint combination really tested my patience. Especially when some of the deaths are down to poor controls and odd depth perception. Multiple times I found Sly missing or not latching onto objects when pressing the correct buttons. I didn’t find the levels to be very memorable and the game setting felt a little repetitive throughout. That’s where the negatives stop, though. Sly is a cool character with a great design and an enjoyable story behind him. The artsyle is timeless and looks incredible even today. I love these comic book, cel-shades graphics and Sly Cooper makes a great use of it. Oddly, I really enjoyed the mini games and they provided a lovely interlude between platforming levels. Sly Cooper frustrated me, but wowed me at the same time. It makyyes me really happy that the sequels are rated more highly and I’m excited to see where they take this series.
