2/5 ★ – Vole's review of DOOM II.

Platform: Xbox Series X My experience: Oof! 😖 Rating: 4/10 What happened here? I’m so confused. The original Doom is a masterpiece, but I’m genuinely surprised how little I enjoyed its sequel. Doom II is more of the original, but with convoluted level design that will drive you up the walls…literally, you will find yourself pressing on walls sometimes just to get to the next area. And if that doesn’t work, try the chainsaw, as that’s obviously logical on stone walls. As said, this is just more Doom 1, so the gunplay here is still great with the amazing addition of the super shotgun, but with level design like this it doesn’t really matter if it’s good. With this in mind, I really can’t recommend this experience. I’ll describe one particular problem below, but just note, if you do play this game, it will not be anywhere near as engaging, well paced or fun as the classic Doom. ————————— There was a key for a door which I couldn’t reach. With how the game is, I went around the whole level to see if there was any doors I missed or buttons/levels I hadn’t pulled that would help me reach the area. The area looked reachable if you ran, but you couldn’t quite make it. After over 30 mins of time wasted on this one part, I got frustrated and teleported out of the area (you can just walk out of the area), and I reported next to the key. There is no indication that you could teleport up there, and it’s like this the whole way through the game
