5/5 ★ – VongolaBox's review of Warframe.
I'm a big sucker for the live service spaceman shooter games, but something about Warframe just feels different. I've played off and on over the years, at one point dumping huge amounts of hours on PC. Over the years I stopped, and once cross save was announced, I decided to get back on the train. I'm so glad I did, the QoL improvements, the relic system, new frames, it's a lot of content. And it's all free. Unreal
Combat is fluid and tuned finely, every Warframe has abilities that set it apart from the rest. There are hidden mechanics and missions that make exploration exciting, even though levels are procedurally generated based on a themed tile set. With the fluid parkour's ease of movement, you begin to maneuver through the landscape like a blur.
Weapons and powers have satisfying sounds and effects, melee attacks resounding with slicing and dicing, bashing and maiming. The near boundless and unique selection of primary and secondary weapons all have their own unique sounds and abilities. Throwing darts attached to festering pustules that burst on impact, leaving clouds of poison, an automatic rifle with a banana clip so large it curves back on the gun, resounds with a hail of gunfire.
The power fantasy and sheer breadth of content has me coming back for more any time I power up the console. The grind of Warframe is no joke, however, and sometimes the resource farming leaves me burned and bored. As a lifelong JRPG player, an ADHD sufferer, and general weirdo, I find comfort in grinding. On the bright side, relic grinding can net you Platinum, the paid premium currency, as you can sell coveted Prime Parts in the in-game trade chat or bazaar.
Thanks for reading all this if you did! 😇 I hope I see you star side, Tenno.
