3/5 ★ – WickDaLine's review of Halo 4.
"Chief, wake up. I need you."
Halo 4's campaign is what I like to call somewhat of an underrated mixed bag for me. On one hand, I really enjoy the humanized dynamic between Chief and Cortana. On the other hand, everything else feels forgettable and cookie cutter. The side characters aren't as charismatic nor interesting as everyone we've seen from Bungie's era of games. As well as the main villain called the Didact who's just as bland as well. Who's more interesting in the game's terminals than the game itself. Given this was 343's first game coming from them alone after Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. The disappearance of Bungie's magic brought to this franchise is indeed felt in Halo 4.
However, I must give credit where credit is due. The campaign's saving grace for me was how well written Chief and Cortana's arc was in the story despite every other aspect that had no such luck. Between the performances of Steve Downes with Jen Taylor and the emotional sendoff Cortana gets that makes my grown ass cry, I say their story ended perfectly here. Until...nevermind.
"Welcome home, John."
