2/5 ★ – WickDaLine's review of Halo 5: Guardians.

I don't dislike Halo 5's story the way most fans do but I must say that the problems with it's campaign are even more noticeable on replay. Forgettable and messy at best, awkwardly convoluted at worst. Certainly can't live up to it's tagline "Hunt the Truth" among other things. First of all, Chief is sidelined for a potentially interesting yet painfully wasted new protagonist named Locke who takes up 12 out of the 15 missions from Chief himself. There are far too many retcons and plot holes that either undo the story arcs wrapped up from Halo 4 and below or require to look into expanded material that ties directly into the campaign itself which is way too much to read that I'm never gonna. It's more clear to me how much 343 made a mess out of Halo 5 nearly killing the franchise. The characters in the game aren't even much to write home about either. Fireteam Osiris and Blue Team were simply made to be co-op characters with hardly any depth, charisma, or chemistry put together. The Warden Eternal is a generic bozo. They even butcher Cortana into a mustache twirling foe as well. Undoing her death and ruining her character arc that were both settled perfectly in Halo 4. By the prophets, Halo: Infinite's story must succeed when it releases three days from now! Otherwise the series is forever disgraced and irredeemable. Willing to give it all the benefit of the doubt with as much caution as I can. As I do have a better feeling this time that Infinite will redeem the Reclaimer Saga. That it must.
