Game Freak has taken some nice steps in the right direction here. I love the new open world which is a big improvement over the boring, linear routes from previous games. Pokémon now roam the terrain and can be caught without having to battle them entirely. It's more action-focussed too — especially the boss encounters — which is a really nice change of pace over the boring gameplay loop of the main series. It needed some more love in the art department, but it’s exciting to see the series take some risks and have them pay off.
