Botany Manor is a game about the imperfect solutions that pave the way for equal recognition of those underrepresented in their fields.
You play a botanist, whose story unfolds, as you make your way through the manor and its gardens. Some clues allow you piece together information needed to grow the flowers you are studying in your herbarium, while others tell the story of her books being refused for publication, her applications being rejected, and her male peers condescending to her.
Each flower requires some compromise - a stepping stone before a perfected method. The stairs in the orangery are broken, and you must find another way down, and use a temporary repair of some wooden boards.
In a parallel - after all the hard work you did to finish your book, you must face rejection again as it is refused for publication, but your temporary compromise is to open your own school and give the next generation a better chance.
Games like this often choose to create a happy ending where everything works out the way it should, but Botany Manor recognises that we still have progress to make.
