3.5/5 ★ – WizardWilson's review of Resident Evil: Revelations 2.

Having recently undertaken such an arduous journey to conquer each Resident Evil title, I've made an effort to identify what are considered the best games in the court of public opinion. From what I've seen, Revelations 2 is criminally underrated. This is the most focused entry to the series since RE4. It doesn't struggle at balancing action with survival horror like Revelations 1 or RE5 does. It's main criticism tends to be it's poor graphics which surprised me; admittedly it's a tad cartoony just like the previous spin-off, but for the most part it's a great looking game featuring some of the best character models yet (other than Claire hitting every branch when falling off the ugly tree). The cinematics are gorgeous and do wonders to support one of the more engaging storylines featured so far — the decision to bring back Barry was a delight. The games dual perspective and episodic structure is better realised this time, with both plotlines having their own tone, while lending creedence to 'The Last of Us'. This influence is reflected once again with the inclusion of stealth, skill trees, and crafting. Revelations 2 is also worthy of being called a horror, an honour surprisingly more rare than it should be for a Resident Evil game. Whether it's the creepy prison setting, or the invisible 'wasp-like' creatures which demand oral directions on their immediate whereabouts, there's definitely some creativity redirected back to the scares department. Although, for a game that's main theme is "fear", it still has a long way to go to be truly terrifying. My review wouldn't be complete without a quick rant at the ending, or better yet, the 'bad' ending, the non-canon ending, and the ending that I so happened to experience with no fucking clue what I'd done wrong only to realise it was due to one silly fucking decision made in a heartbeat that at the time seemed to hold no severe consequences. Whoever's decision this was should be fired, I played like a saint and got punished for it. One glance on the internet and I seen most people get the bad ending too. Anyway... rant over, I YouTubed the true ending, I enjoyed it.
